ACCRA, Oct 21, (The African Portal) – Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has resumed the trial of former Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Chief Executive, Adjenim Boateng Adjei, over alleged breaches of procurement laws.
Adjei, who was dismissed in 2020 following a corruption exposé, faces multiple charges, including eight counts of using public office for profit and nine counts of influencing procurement processes to gain unfair advantage in the award of government contracts.
The case, which has been before the court for two years, has drawn significant public attention due to its implications for transparency and accountability in public office.
According to the OSP, Adjei is accused of exploiting his position at the PPA to advance private business interests in violation of the Public Procurement Act. Prosecutors say they are seeking to establish evidence of corruption and conflict of interest.
In a related development, Adjei’s brother-in-law, Francis Kwaku Arhin, has also been charged with one count of using public office for profit, the OSP said in a recent statement.
The OSP alleged that in 2022, the former PPA boss withdrew funds from previously frozen bank accounts, raising concerns about the management of assets linked to the case.
Court proceedings are ongoing, with the OSP reaffirming its commitment to pursuing the matter “to its logical conclusion”.
