In a post on X, the US Mission in Nigeria said its resolve to tackle corruption would not spare anyone, including high-profile figures.

“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving U.S. visas,” the Mission said.

Meanwhile, Reform UK has pledged to abolish the right of migrants to settle permanently in the UK after five years if it wins the next election.

Under the proposed changes, migrants would have to reapply for visas every five years under tougher conditions. The party said it would scrap Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), which currently gives migrants access to benefits and a pathway to British citizenship.

Reform said its plans would save £234bn over several decades, but Chancellor Rachel Reeves dismissed the claim, saying the suggested savings “have no basis in reality”. She added that the government was already reviewing restrictions on migrants’ access to welfare.

Reform leader Nigel Farage argued the UK should not be “the world’s food bank”.

“It is not for us to provide welfare for people coming in from all over the world,” he said at a press conference.

The party said applicants for new visas would need to meet stricter requirements, including higher salary thresholds and improved English language standards.

According to Department for Work and Pensions figures, more than 213,000 people with ILR were claiming Universal Credit as of July.
