The Anambra State Government has told the electorate to resist voting for Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2027 general election.

The state government made the call on its official X account, managed by the office of the New Media to Governor Charles Soludo, on Monday.

The government asserted that Obi destroyed the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the state while President Bola Tinubu defended it.

In a graphic branding Obi as a betrayal, it wrote, “A betrayal alert for Ndi APGA. Since 2014, Obi has had one mission: to destroy the party that made him.

“In 2015, while President Tinubu stood with APGA, Obi backed the opposition to bury us. Do not be deceived by a man who abandoned his own house. Anambra is APGA. Ndi APGA, defend your home, resist the NDC.’’

Recall, in 2025, Soludo said that he was backing President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said his support is grounded in a 22-year friendship and the President’s bold economic reforms.

Speaking with journalists after meeting Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Soludo said his support remained firm despite not being a member of the All Progressives Congress.

“President Tinubu is my friend; he has been my friend for 22 years now and counting, so you don’t deny your friend. I support him, and I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, particularly in the economy and structural reforms. We’re taking the right steps, and we need to stay the course,” he said.

The governor described Tinubu as “in high spirits, hale and hearty” and urged political parties that identify as progressive to form a broad coalition to strengthen democracy and drive economic and social development.

In the same vein, the Governor’s party, APGA, endorsed President Bola Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 general elections in July.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, who disclosed this, said the absence of the party’s presidential candidate’s name on the Independent National Electoral Commission nomination portal should not be interpreted as a failure to comply with electoral guidelines.

Opara said the party’s leadership had already resolved to back Tinubu’s re-election bid after what he described as extensive consultations within its ranks.

He added that the party’s National Executive Committee reached the decision, concluding that supporting the president’s second-term ambition was in the overall interest of the country.
