The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in collaboration with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, will on Monday, 22 June 2026, commemorate the 79th birthday of its founder, former President Jerry John Rawlings, with a series of events in Accra.
The commemoration, themed “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy,” will feature a ceremony to name the party’s headquarters after the late statesman and unveil a bust in his honour.
The event, scheduled for 09:00 GMT, will be addressed by President John Dramani Mahama and other senior members of the party.
Later in the day, a public lecture and exhibition will be held at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in Accra.
The keynote address will be delivered by Ghanaian academic and lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata. The programme is expected to begin at 16:00 GMT.
Other speakers include Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu, a former Minister for Local Government and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, as well as former Information and National Security Minister Kofi Totobi Quakyi.
The organisers have invited members of the public, party supporters, cadres and NDC members to participate in the events, which are intended to celebrate Rawlings’ life, leadership and contribution to Ghana’s democratic development.
