ACCRA, Oct 3 (The African Portal) – Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama will meet civil society organisations (CSOs) in Accra on Thursday to discuss ways of tackling illegal mining, known locally as galamsey, the presidency said.
The talks at Jubilee House, the seat of government, aim to provide a platform for frank dialogue on the environmental and social impact of the practice, which has threatened farmland, water bodies and livelihoods across the country.
More than 30 CSOs, including the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), have been invited to take part, according to a statement from the president’s office.
Dr Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President, said the engagement would seek to harness “collective expertise, perspectives and solutions to address the national challenge.”
