Togo launched three tools in Lomé on Thursday, August 20, 2026, aimed at increasing private-sector participation in climate investment. The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen the country’s resilience to climate change.

The first is a digital platform for climate information and investment, designed as a one-stop shop. It is intended to make it easier for businesses to access climate data, financing mechanisms, calls for proposals and partnership opportunities in green finance.

The second is the Private Sector Green & Climate Booklet, which is intended to guide businesses toward climate financing opportunities and encourage the adoption of low-carbon and climate-resilient business models. The third is a communications plan designed to coordinate the dissemination of information and showcase private-sector best practices on climate action.

The tools were launched under the NAP Readiness project, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The project seeks to strengthen national and regional capacity to manage climate risks.

Through the initiative, the government wants the private sector to play a larger role in innovation, investment and green job creation while helping accelerate the transition toward a more resilient economy.

Economy and Strategic Monitoring Minister Badanam Patoki said the private sector was essential to tackling climate change, describing it as a source of technological innovation, a key source of investment and a major contributor to green and decent job creation for young people.

Patoki said no national climate strategy, however ambitious, could achieve its objectives without the full involvement of the private sector.

The initiative comes as Togo remains vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including shifting rainfall patterns, flooding, coastal erosion and declining agricultural yields. The impacts are particularly significant for agriculture, fisheries and local economic activity.
