Vice President to launch revised Ghana National Cultural Policy on June 9

According to the ministry, the revised policy provides a renewed strategic framework for preserving, promoting and leveraging Ghana's rich cultural heritage to foster social cohesion, economic growth, creative innovation and sustainable national development.

ACCRA, June 4 (THE AFRICAN PORTAL) – Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is set to officially launch the Revised Ghana National Cultural Policy on June 9, 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s cultural development agenda and positioning culture as a key driver of national development.

The launch, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the National Theatre in Accra, is being organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

According to the ministry, the revised policy provides a renewed strategic framework for preserving, promoting and leveraging Ghana’s rich cultural heritage to foster social cohesion, economic growth, creative innovation and sustainable national development.

The policy has been reviewed and updated to reflect current national and global realities, including the expansion of the creative economy, advances in technology, the growth of cultural tourism, youth empowerment, cultural education and the protection of Ghana’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

The ministry said the revised policy seeks to position culture as a central pillar of nation-building and sustainable development while creating an enabling environment for the growth of the country’s cultural and creative sectors.

The launch is expected to attract government officials, traditional leaders, development partners, representatives of the creative and cultural industries, academics, civil society organisations, cultural practitioners and members of the diplomatic community.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts expressed confidence that the successful implementation of the policy would strengthen cultural institutions, expand opportunities for creative entrepreneurs, promote cultural diversity, reinforce national identity and contribute significantly to the government’s broader development agenda.

The ministry has extended an invitation to the public and members of the media to attend the event.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts is pleased to announce the official launch of the Revised Ghana National Cultural Policy, by Her Excellency Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, on Tuesday, 9″ June 2026, at 10:00 am at the National Theatre of Ghana.

The Revised Ghana National Cultural Policy represents a significant milestone in Ghana’s cultural development agenda. It provides a renewed strategic framework for preserving, promoting, and harnessing the nation’s rich cultural heritage as a catalyst for national development, social cohesion, economic growth, and creative innovation.

The policy has been reviewed and updated to align with contemporary, national and global realities, including the growth of the creative economy, technological advancement, cultural tourism, youth empowerment, cultural education, and the safeguarding of Ghana’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage. It seeks to position culture as a central pillar of sustainable development and nation-building

The launch will bring together Government officials, traditional authorities, development partners,
representatives of the creative and cultural industries, academia, civil society organisations, cultural
practitioners, and members of the diplomatic community.

The Ministry believes that the successful implementation of the revised policy will strengthen
Ghana’s cultural institutions, create opportunities for creative entrepreneurs, promote cultural
diversity, enhance national identity, and contribute meaningfully to the realisation of the
Government’s development agenda.

The public and members of the media are cordially invited to the launch.
