The group comprises 27 men, 16 women, and six children.

They were among about 60 passengers on a South Africa-to- Malawi bus that overturned on May 5 between Kotwa Town and Nyamapanda Border Post, killing 17 Malawians.

On arrival, the survivors were screened at Mwanza District Hospital. Four were referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for further treatment, while 44 were taken to Kamuzu Stadium.

Speaking to other local media outlets, Department of Disaster Management Affairs Commissioner Wilson Moleni welcomed the group, saying government worked with Zimbabwean authorities to repatriate them.

He said officials will assess each case, noting some survivors need more medical care while others can return home.

He thanked Zimbabwe’s government for its support throughout the process.

The bodies of the 17 Malawians who died in the crash are expected to arrive in the country on Monday, May 11.
