ASSIN PRASO, Oct 3 (The African Portal) – A circuit court in Ghana’s Central Region has sentenced a 26-year-old farmer to 30 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm, court officials said.

Frank Owusu, also known as “Lifer,” admitted to robbing a woman in Assin Praso on March 28, 2025, while armed with a locally manufactured pistol, prosecutors told the Assin Nsuaem-Kyekyewere Circuit Court.

The court heard that Owusu entered the complainant’s home at night, stole two mobile phones and a pair of glasses, and threatened to kill her unless she handed over money. The victim gave him GH₵3,000 ($220) in cash before he fled.

Tenants pursued him and recovered the pistol and phones during a struggle, but Owusu escaped with the money. He was arrested in September after police investigations and confessed to the crime, prosecutors said.

Presiding Judge Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey sentenced Owusu to 30 years for robbery and two months for unlawful firearm possession, to run concurrently. He said the ruling was intended to deter rising incidents of rural robberies.
