ACCRA, Sept 27 (The African Portal) – The Africa Media Globe (AMG) has inaugurated its first executive committee, in what its leaders described as a “historic step” toward reshaping the continent’s narrative on the global stage.

The AMG brings together journalists and communications officers trained by the RNTC Media Training Centre in the Netherlands, which provides media training and capacity-building for social change.

“Our mandate is clear; to retell Africa’s story with truth, pride, and hope,” AMG President Shirley Asiedu-Addo said in statement. “For too long, the world has seen Africa mainly through the lens of negativity, while refusing to place the Africa of gold, uranium, diamonds, oil, waterfalls, and beautiful, resilient people where it should be. This must change. We must change it.”

Asiedu-Addo said the group aims to counter misinformation and amplify Africa’s successes through initiatives such as AfricaNow and partnerships with bodies including the African Union and the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Executive members

Those sworn in to leadership roles include Asiedu-Addo as president, Judith Kukunda as vice president for East Africa, Olatokewa Ayoade as vice president for West Africa, Lilipearl Baaba Otoo as public relations and communications officer, Mortalla Diop as assistant general secretary for Francophone Africa, Charles Sylvanus Boye as secretary general, Immaculate Amony as assistant secretary general, Abeolhassan Abdelsattar as vice president for North Africa, and David A. Yates as assistant public relations and communications officer.

The committee was sworn in by Judge Mavis Kwainoe, who praised its vision and urged members to lead with transparency and accountability.

Mandate

“As the Executive Committee, our responsibility is to provide direction, transparency, and service to our members,” Asiedu-Addo said. “To achieve this, we must be disciplined, collaborative, and innovative so that AMG quickly becomes a respected and trusted platform across the continent.”

For the AMG’s President, “The world is waiting for Africa’s story. We are Africans, and no one can tell Africa’s story better than us. Let’s get to work. Let’s do this together.”

The remarks were contained in a press release dated September 25, 2025, and signed by AMG General Secretary Charles Sylvanus Boye.
