South Africa’s president acknowledges rising tensions over migration

According to him, his government will soon launch a project known as Nkoko Nkitikiti to address the country’s poultry production deficits.

He explained that the initiative will create jobs, enhance food security, and reduce dependence on imports.

President Mahama revealed this during a tour of a poultry facility operated by the Ghana National Service Authority (GNSA) in Accra on Friday, September 12, 2025.

The GNSA, established in 1973, deploys graduates from tertiary institutions to support national development in both the public and private sectors. It operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.

Impressed by the work of the Authority in the poultry sector, President Mahama remarked “What is happening here is very impressive.”

He stressed that Ghana has the capacity to produce its own chicken and save millions of dollars spent annually on frozen chicken imports.

“I promise to help you develop this poultry farm into a centre of excellence,” he assured.

According to him, the GNSA poultry farm should serve as “a producing farm, a training farm, and a research farm” for individuals interested in poultry farming.

President Mahama also disclosed that he had directed the Finance Minister to personally visit the facility, assess its operations, and identify areas that require government support.
