NEW YORK, Sept 23 (The African Portal) – US President Donald Trump on Tuesday told the UN General Assembly that the recognition of a Palestinian state is a “reward for Hamas”.
His address came as Israel ramps up its offensive in Gaza City after several Western powers – including France – recognised the state of Palestine. Follow our liveblog for all the latest developments.
Trump has just delivered a scathing critique of the UN.
“What is the purpose of the United Nations?” Trump asked more than 140 world leaders in the General Assembly Hall.
He accused the UN of simply writing “strongly worded letters” and added, “empty words don’t solve wars”.
US President Trump begins his UNGA address by noting that it’s been six years since he has addressed this gathering.
Six years ago, the world was “prosperous and at peace”, he said before blaming “the previous administration” – referring to the Joe Biden presidency – of “shattering the peace I left behind”.
Since the eight months he came back into power, the USA has become “the hottest country anywhere in the world”.
