LAGOS, Sept 13 (The African Portal) – Nigerian socialite and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has embarked on another record-breaking attempt—this time aiming to cook jollof rice in the biggest pot ever at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
The cooking marathon lasted more than eight hours, drawing thousands of onlookers eager to witness the feat. However, the excitement turned dramatic when the massive pot unexpectedly crumbled while being hoisted for weighing.
Although no injuries were reported, the collapse left many in the crowd disappointed, with some blaming the engineers who constructed the pot.
Videos circulating online showed Baci and her team serving steaming plates of jollof rice to attendees, with large quantities left over from the 200 bags of rice used.
On social media, reactions poured in – some sympathetic, others humorous. One user quipped that Baci should not have informed her “village people” about the event.
Baci, who rose to global fame with her Guinness World Record cooking marathon in 2023, said her goal with this latest attempt was to showcase Nigerian cuisine on the world stage.
