The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has rejected allegations circulating on social media concerning the selection of players for the national teams and says it is considering legal action against individuals and platforms responsible for publishing what it describes as false and defamatory claims.

In a statement issued on July 7, 2026, the Association said it does not demand, solicit or receive money from players in connection with national team selection or for any other purpose.

The GFA’s response follows the circulation of a viral video in which a woman made allegations relating to the selection process for the Black Stars. The Association did not identify the individual in its statement.

Rejecting the claims, the GFA maintained that the selection of players for the national teams is the sole responsibility of the respective head coaches.

“The GFA leadership does not invite players into any of our national teams. This responsibility does not lie with the leadership, nor with any individual member of the Association. It lies exclusively with the Head Coach of the team,” the statement said.

The Association further stated that payments due to players, including bonuses and appearance fees, are processed directly by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation into the individual bank accounts of players. It said the GFA neither handles nor intermediates such payments.

The GFA also noted that its governance framework and the FIFA Code of Ethics prohibit any official from demanding or receiving improper payments from players, adding that any proven breach would attract disciplinary sanctions and could result in criminal proceedings.

The Association called on anyone making allegations against it to provide evidence to support their claims.

“To those spreading these allegations, we challenge you to boldly come out and state clearly who exactly you dealt with at the GFA, how much was allegedly paid or demanded, when it was paid, and for what purpose,” the statement said.

The GFA said it believes the allegations are false and has referred the matter to its legal team for further action. It also disclosed that a legal notice has been issued to Bigscout Media, requesting the removal of the video in question and an apology.

The Association urged the public to rely on information published through its official communication channels and those of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation while the matter is addressed.
