ABUJA, Dec 12 (The African Portal) – ECOWAS foreign ministers have unanimously endorsed Ghanaian president John Dramani Mahama as West Africa’s sole candidate for the African Union (AU) chairmanship when the region’s turn in the rotating leadership comes in 2027.
Ghana’s foreign minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said in a Facebook post on Friday, December 12.
The endorsement, reached at a meeting of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers in Abuja, will be submitted to the Authority of Heads of State and Government for adoption on Sunday, the minister said.
“I thank colleague ministers greatly,” the post read, adding that Ghana was “exceedingly grateful” for the confidence shown in Mahama, whom the minister described as a “visionary and Pan-African” leader.
“Ghana shall keep making Africa proud,” the minister added, adding that “Ghana is exceedingly grateful to ECOWAS for the confidence and support for our beloved visionary and Pan-African President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama.”
