GHANA, Dec 3 (The African Portal) – I refer to the Graphic Showbiz online publication dated 13 November 2025, “Kojo Antwi Experience to spark Koforidua on December 20.” The publication highlights how fans and revellers to the scheduled Kojo Antwi concert in Ahodwo-Osabene in the Eastern Region on 20 December 2025 will be entertained to good music that would leave them with everlasting memories. The gig is scheduled to be held in the White House Events and More facility in the residential community of Ahodwo-Osabene, in Akuapem North, near Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

For residents in Ahodwo-Osabene, especially those whose houses are close to the White House event facility, any such event spells doom for them. Some houses even share walls directly with the facility. The residents would not be able to share in the joy as described in the publication. Instead, because the White House is an open-air facility, the Ahodwo-Osabene residents will be subjected to excessive noise coming from loud speakers, DJ commentaries, and shouts from revellers. The reason for the predicament of the residents is the fact that White House which was established in 2024, apart from being open, is also nestled within residences without any buffers.

Because of the persistent excessive noise from the White House in the past two years, the Ahodwo-Osabene have made several complaints to the relevant authorities, including Environmental Protection Authority, Ghana Tourism Authority, Akuapem North Municipal Assembly, Commission for Human and Administrative Justice, Ghana Police Service, and National Investigations Bureau. Several meetings have been held as a result with the same government authorities but the noise pollution from White House persists, in flagrant abuse of residents’ human rights to peace, quiet and well-being.

We wish to draw the attention of Maestro Kojo Antwi and the other artistes to the precarious situation of the residents of Ahodwo-Osabene any time there is a concert in the White House, and to plead to their good consciences not to participate in this event which is likely to create noise pollution in contravention to laws and regulations. We know your fans may be expecting your sterling performances, but please be considerate of those who will have to endure noise pollution for several hours in the night which can potentially cause or exacerbate debilitating health effects such as Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NHIL), high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep disturbances, stress, high cholesterol levels, neurosis and nervous breakdown.

In conclusion, reference is made to this year’s Noise Awareness Day on 30 April 2025, during which the EPA in a press statement outlined the following best practices, among others, to mitigate noise pollution:
● Siting noise-producing facilities far from living places
● Limiting the use of loudspeakers, especially in residential areas
● Tuning down musical instruments and limiting noise to only the source.
● Installing noise barriers/acoustic/noise-proof materials for noisy equipment

It is therefore recommended that the event is held in a place like the Koforidua Youth Center or stadium which already hosts such large events likely to generate excessive noise. The EPA is called upon to ensure that existing noise-pollution laws are complied with by the White House.
