MOSCOW, Dec 2 (The African Portal) – President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday hailed reports from military commanders claiming Russian forces had taken full control of the northern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk.
The Ukraine military, however, said it was still holding the northern part of the strategic city, and that fighting is still ongoing. The contradicting reports come as Donald Trump’s special peace envoy is due to meet Putin in Moscow to discuss a proposal to end the war in Ukraine. Follow our liveblog for all the latest news.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that US and Ukrainian negotiators had “refined” a framework peace agreement developed in Geneva during their recent talks in Florida.
Writing on X, he said Ukraine was approaching diplomacy with “utmost seriousness” and wanted more of its foreign partners involved in the process. He also said Russia had launched “disinformation campaigns” ahead of a meeting between US and Russian officials.
