ACCRA, Nov 24 (The African Portal) – The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced a strike beginning on Monday, 24 November, accusing the government of failing to implement a labour award issued last year.
The group said it had been left with “no alternative” after what it described as persistent delays and a lack of commitment from authorities to honour obligations set out by the National Labour Commission (NLC).
In a statement signed by CETAG President Maxwell Bunu and Secretary Fidelis Kamaayi, the association said: “The National Executive Committee (NEC), in consultation with the National Council of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), at its emergency meeting held on November 19, 2025, has resolved to withdraw all services effective Monday, November 24, 2025.
“This decision follows government’s failure to implement the National Labour Commission (NLC) arbitral award issued on May 2, 2023.”
The association said the key dispute centres on the government’s refusal to pay compensation for what it called “all-year-round work” and additional duties carried out in 2022. CETAG said only lecturers at Accra College of Education had received partial payment, leaving 39 other colleges without settlement.
CETAG said it remained committed to improving teacher education but argued that government’s “indifference” and disregard for a binding award had forced the industrial action.
