ACCRA, Oct 30 (The African Portal) – Police in Ghana’s Bono Region have launched an investigation into the killing of two timber concession guards and the burning of a vehicle during an attack by suspected illegal chainsaw operators at the Mpamso forest near Nsuhia in the Dormaa Municipality.
The victims, identified as Sani Aliyu, 34, and Ibrahim Musa, 35, both security guards at ADRAS Timber Company, were reportedly shot dead during the assault, the police said in a statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the regional police spokesperson.
A third guard, Ibrahim Issah, 41, told police that about 200 armed men wielding guns and machetes attacked them at the concession site on Oct. 26, the statement added.
Police who visited the scene found the two bodies about 100 metres apart, each bearing multiple gunshot wounds. A Toyota pickup truck with registration number GT 3079-17 was also found burned beyond repair.
The bodies have been taken to the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Police said efforts were under way to arrest the attackers and urged the public to avoid violent acts and use lawful means to resolve disputes.
