ACCRA, Oct 20 (The African Portal) – The lawyer for Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has dismissed suggestions that his client is evading justice, insisting he is “doing well” and remains available through legitimate legal channels.

Speaking to Accra-based Joy News, lawyer Frank Davies said the former minister is not in hiding and continues to rely on his faith as legal proceedings continue.

“But we all know where he is. A wanted man cannot fare well. He is good. He is sustained by the good Lord every day,” Davies said.

He added that the legal team had complied with all lawful procedures and that Ofori-Atta was cooperating with the relevant authorities.

His remarks follow a statement from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) rejecting claims that it was refusing to cooperate with the Attorney-General’s office in efforts to extradite Ofori-Atta.

The OSP earlier placed the former minister on a wanted list and issued an Interpol Red Notice over his alleged involvement in ongoing corruption investigations.

If activated, the extradition process would enable the state to bring him back to Ghana to face possible criminal charges.

Ofori-Atta served as Finance Minister under the New Patriotic Party government from 2017 until his departure from office.

The case has generated public interest, with critics questioning the pace of the extradition process. However, Mr Davies maintained that his client “has made himself available through legally permissible means” and is not avoiding prosecution.
