The fire, which broke out at about 11:04 a.m. on Monday, 13 October 2025, was finally extinguished at 10:39 p.m. after an intense 11-hour operation, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said.

Four firefighting units were deployed to the scene as crews worked to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby facilities.

The Tema Regional GNFS Public Affairs Officer, Divisional Officer Grade II Ebenezer Yenzu, told Graphic Online that firefighting teams from Gbetsile, Devtraco, Motorway, and Tema Metro were involved in the operation, supported by an excavator.

“The fire was finally extinguished at 10:39 pm,” DO II Yenzu said.

Damage and casualties

Yenzu, who also serves as the Tema Metro Fire Commander, said the blaze caused significant damage to industrial ovens, control boards, cutting machines and binding machines.

However, he added that about 95% of the company’s used tyres and a warehouse were salvaged.

He confirmed that two men, aged 27 and 25, sustained varying degrees of burns and were taken to the Tema General Hospital before the arrival of the fire service.

Yenzu said the cause of the fire was under investigation and that a team of senior GNFS officers, led by ACFO II Patrick N. Sallah, Tema Regional Fire Commander, supervised the response.

He added that the Afienya District Police Commander was also present at the scene to ensure public safety and assist with the emergency efforts.
