The incident occurred early on Friday at Gbintri in the East Mamprusi Municipality, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on officers stationed at the inland checkpoint, police said in a statement on October 4.

The attackers reportedly made away with a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers. Police later retrieved a rifle used by the victims at the scene.

Rafiq Mohammed, an Assistant Immigration Control Officer II, was pronounced dead after sustaining gunshot wounds, while his colleague, Oppong Daniel, was seriously injured and is receiving treatment at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu.

Police said investigators recovered a service riffle used by the Immigration officers and other exhibits at the scene.
