BIRNIN KEBBI, Nigeria, Oct 3 (The African Portal) – Police in northwest Nigeria’s Kebbi state said on Friday they had killed three suspected bandits during a shootout in Dandi local government area.
The incident happened when armed men attacked Gorun Yamma village, the state police command said.
“Acting swiftly on intelligence, Divisional Police Officer, Kamba, SP Mohammed Bello Lawal, mobilised a joint team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene,” command spokesman CSP Nafiu Abubakar said in a statement.
“The security team engaged the bandits in a prolonged exchange of fire, resulting in the death of three suspects, while others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds. A red, unregistered Honda motorcycle, popularly referred to as ‘Boko Haram’, was recovered at the scene,” he added.
Kebbi police commissioner Bello Sani praised the officers’ actions, saying their “swift response averted what could have been another tragic attack on innocent residents.” He ordered the case to be transferred to the state’s Criminal Investigation Department for further probe.
The commissioner reassured residents of the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and urged communities to provide timely information to security agencies.
In July, police said they had killed three bandits in operations across five states: Taraba, Plateau, Adamawa, Nasarawa and Niger.
