NAIROBI, Oct 2 (The African Portal) – Kenya’s President on Thursday praised the country’s athletes for their performance at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, where they won 11 medals, saying the results showed the nation’s sporting excellence.
Kenya finished with seven gold, two silver and two bronze medals, ranking second overall globally and first in Africa.
“Our athletes in Tokyo carried our flag with pride and brought immense honour to Kenya, proving to the world that we are not participants in the league of nations; we play in the league of champions,” the president wrote on his official Facebook page.
He said the success was “testimony that Kenya is not made for average, that our nation’s DNA is not ordinary but extraordinary, not mediocrity but excellence.”
The president hosted the medal winners for breakfast at State House in Nairobi and pledged more support for sports development.
“We commit ourselves, as a country, to harness our talents fully, to nurture them with integrity, and to raise the standards of our sports to even greater heights,” he said.
