ACCRA, Mar 9 (THE AFRICAN PORTAL) – A women’s advocacy group in Ghana has called for renewed efforts to advance gender equality and protect the rights of women and girls.
In a statement marking this year’s International Women’s Day, the organisation Developing Women for Mobilization (DWM) said it would continue to champion the rights of women while promoting equality.
The statement, signed by the group’s director Peace Aryee, urged stronger action to ensure justice and equal opportunities for women and girls.
Mrs Aryee also paid tribute to Ghana’s late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, praising her long-standing commitment to women’s empowerment.
She described Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings as a passionate advocate for women and girls, noting her efforts to expand access to education, economic opportunities and leadership while promoting protection from gender-based violence.
“Through her vision and tireless work, she helped amplify the voices of women across communities and inspired a new generation of leaders committed to justice and equality,” Mrs Aryee said.
Reflecting on the occasion, she added that the legacy of the former First Lady continued to guide the organisation’s work.
“Today, as we celebrate the strength and resilience of women everywhere, we also reflect on the powerful legacy left by Her Excellency, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. Her passion and commitment continue to guide our mission,” she said.

As the world commemorates International Women’s Day under the theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” Developing Women for Mobilization –DWM” joins the global community in celebrating the achievements of women while calling for renewed action toward gender equality.
This year’s observance carries special significance for our organization as we remember and honour the life and legacy of our late President, H. E. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, whose unwavering dedication to women’s rights and empowerment transformed countless lives and strengthened the movement for gender equality.
Her Excellency, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was a passionate advocate for women and girls, championing access to education, economic opportunities, leadership, and protection from gender-based violence. Through her vision and tireless work, she helped amplify the voices of women across communities and inspired a new generation of leaders committed to justice and equality.
