ACCRA, Dec 3 (The African Portal) – Ghana’s inflation slowed for an eleventh straight month in November, easing to 6.3% from 8.0% in October, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has said.
Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu told a news briefing that the decline was driven by lower food and non-food inflation. Consumer prices rose 0.9% month-on-month.
Food inflation fell to 6.6% in November from 9.5% in October, while non-food inflation declined to 6.1% from 6.9%. Services inflation also eased, dropping to 3.8% from 4.6%.
The North East Region recorded the highest regional inflation at 12.3%, while the Savannah Region posted the lowest at near zero, the GSS said.
Inflation for locally produced items fell to 6.8% in November from 8.0% in October. Goods inflation also slowed, easing to 7.3% from 9.3%.
Iddrisu urged businesses to leverage the lower inflation environment by boosting efficiency, strengthening local supply chains and reducing waste, adding that cost savings should be passed on to consumers where possible.
