ACCRA, Nov 28 (The African Portal) – The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has interdicted six of its officers for gross misconduct after a video showing them verbally assaulting a superior officer went viral on social media.
The incident occurred on November 25, 2025 at the Offinso In-land Checkpoint. The officers were on duty when they were captured verbally abusing a superior, who identified himself as a Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DC01), while he was travelling as a passenger on a commercial vehicle.
The GIS described the officers’ behaviour as falling “far below the standards expected of personnel of the Service,” highlighting the verbal assault, lack of civility, and open disrespect toward a superior officer. The Service noted that such conduct is unacceptable, especially in light of its emphasis on professionalism, decorum, and integrity in the execution of official duties.
In a statement, the Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI) reiterated that professionalism, respect for authority, and integrity are core values of the Service. “Any conduct that undermines these values will be met with swift and decisive action,” the statement added.
Investigations into the matter have been initiated, and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with the Ghana Immigration Service Regulations, 2016 (LI. 2245).
The Service expressed regret for any inconvenience or embarrassment caused to the public and reassured citizens of its commitment to upholding the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and accountability.
