ACCRA, Nov 5 (The African Portal) – Ghanaian legislator Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has called for the removal of Abena Osei Asare as chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
In a letter to the Speaker of Parliament dated 2 November, the Gomoa Central MP argued that Ms Osei Asare lacks the moral authority to head the committee, as she previously served as Deputy Minister of Finance.
Obeng said many of the issues currently being examined by the PAC are linked to the period when Ms Osei Asare held that position.
He said her continued leadership could undermine the credibility of the committee, which is responsible for scrutinising public spending and ensuring accountability in the use of state funds.
Sharing the letter on social media, A Plus wrote: “This step is to protect the integrity and dignity of Parliament, especially the committee tasked with ensuring accountability in the management of public funds.”
There has so far been no public response from Ms Osei Asare or the leadership of Parliament regarding the call.
