ACCRA, Oct 30 (The African Portal) – A new attendance report from Ghana’s Parliament has revealed the Members of Parliament (MPs) who missed the most sittings during the first session of 2025.
The report, which covers 43 parliamentary sittings held between January and March, shows that Felix Akwetey Nii Okle, MP for Bortianor-Ngleshi Amanfro, topped the list with 23 absences.
He was followed by Joseph Frempong of Nkawkaw, who missed 22 sittings, and Ernest Yaw Anim of Kumawu, who was absent on 21 occasions.
Other MPs with high absentee rates included Col. Kwadwo Damoah (Rtd.) of Jaman South (19 absences), Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, MP for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam and Minister for Finance (17 absences), and Blay Nyameke Armah of Sekondi (16 absences).
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, missed 15 sittings. Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie (Effiduase-Asokore), Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah (Takoradi), and Kwaku Agyeman Kwarteng (Obuasi West) each missed 14 sittings.
Other legislators, including Sam Nartey George (Ningo-Prampram), Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo (Wa Central) — Minister for Employment — and Francis-Xavier Sosu (Madina), were each absent 13 times.
Parliament has yet to comment on whether the absentee MPs provided formal explanations for their absence, or if any sanctions will follow under the standing orders of the House.
