ACCRA, Oct 29 (The African Portal) – Ghana’s Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has arrested 12 suspects for possessing and transporting 598 cartons of BB cartridges at Nsakye, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region, the police said in a statement on Wednesday.
The suspects, including driver Emmanuel Tsornyake and five others, were apprehended while loading the ammunition into a specially designed compartment of a DAF articulated truck with registration number EN 792-19, according to the statement.
Police said three other men were also arrested for their suspected involvement following an intelligence-led operation on Oct. 28. Preliminary investigations found that the suspects had concealed 317 cartons of live cartridges and 281 empty cartons inside the trailer to evade detection.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three more suspects, including Ebenezer Okyere, who named Samuel Kwadjo Baffoe as the owner of the cartridges. Baffoe, later arrested at Amasaman, allegedly identified one Gloria Bartels as his supplier and said he supplied ammunition to two Nigerians, identified as Tony and Chika, for export to Nigeria.
All 12 suspects are in police custody assisting with investigations and will be put before court, the statement said.
