WINDHOEK, Oct 28 (The African Portal) – President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on the private sector to help expose bribery among civil servants, warning that corruption continues to undermine service delivery and trust.
She was speaking at the Public-Private Forum in Windhoek last week.
The president said corruption has been killing the country for a while, adding that many civil servants “get things” through shortcuts and sometimes ask members of the public to pay extra for services.
“I do not know how many of you in this room have given under the table to give or get service in return. I don’t like it,” she said.
Nandi-Ndaitwah called on the private sector to help her root out corruption.
“It is difficult for me to handle corruption if the private sector is frustrated by civil servants wanting to get things through shortcuts,” she said.
“We need to coordinate. Progress starts with trust, and from the discussions we have had, we have shown that the government and the private sector trust each other,” she said.
The president said the country needs a predictable and fair system to build confidence as this would attract investment, create jobs and drive inclusive growth.
