ACCRA, Oct 28 (The African Portal) – A High Court in Accra has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The order was made on Tuesday after Mr Boasiako failed to appear in court for his ongoing criminal trial without prior notice or a valid reason.

The court, presided over by Justice Audrey Kocuvi-Tay, had been scheduled to hold a case management conference involving state prosecutors and the defence at 9:40 a.m.

However, both the accused and his lawyer were absent, prompting the judge to issue the warrant.

“Having not given any notice to the court as to their absence, a bench warrant is issued for the arrest of the accused persons,” Justice Kocuvi-Tay ruled.

Mr Boasiako later arrived in court around 10:15 a.m., but the warrant remains active until the judge, who is currently on recess, formally withdraws it
