ACCRA, Oct 27 (The African Portal) – Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the country’s creative and beauty industries, describing them as strategic drivers of economic growth and national transformation.

Speaking at the ninth Ghana Beauty Awards in Accra, organised by Make-Up Ghana, Gomashie said the creative and tourism sectors remained “vital engines for national renewal and progress.” She conveyed greetings from President John Dramani Mahama, adding that his administration was determined to strengthen Ghana’s creative and tourism ecosystem.

“The fact that I’m Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts reflects our belief in the sector’s power to drive change,” she said.

Gomashie praised the event’s theme, “Thrive,” as a call for resilience and innovation, urging beauty professionals to develop ethical, sustainable and globally competitive brands. She noted that the global beauty industry was worth more than $700 billion and provided “livelihood, dignity and empowerment for thousands of young people.”

She also highlighted her ministry’s Black Star Experience strategy, which aims to position Ghana as a leading African lifestyle and cultural destination. “It is not an event; it is a lifestyle, a change of mind, and an acceptance of who we are as Africans,” she said.

Youth Development and Empowerment Minister George Opare Addo, who also addressed the ceremony, called for stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity. He said Ghana’s creative economy contributed significantly to GDP and held vast export potential.

The 2025 Ghana Beauty Awards, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel, recognised excellence in makeup artistry, skincare, hair, fashion, education and innovation. Top winners received prizes including an all-expense-paid trip to Barbados and to the 2026 GRAMMY Awards.

The annual event is supported by partners including Labadi Beach Hotel, Feel Naturals and Marie Noelle Spa & Salon.
