ACCRA, Oct 24 (The African Portal) – A Ghanaian police officer has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.
Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, was convicted by a Kumasi High Court after a 5-2 jury verdict on Friday, 24 October 2025.
The officer, popularly known as Tycoon, was found guilty of shooting 26-year-old Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maadwoa, multiple times in the abdomen and chest at Adum on 20 April 2023.
Dapaah, a mother of one, was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police said Twumasi went into hiding after the shooting but was later arrested during a special operation at Sekyere, near Effiduase, in the Ashanti Region.
He had initially pleaded not guilty when he first appeared before the same court in July 2023.
The case attracted widespread public attention in Ghana, with many calling for justice for the victim and reforms in how police officers accused of violent crimes are handled.
