ACCRA, Oct 18 (The African Portal) – Ghana’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a second suspect in connection with a series of robberies and murders targeting taxi drivers in the Greater Accra Region.
Police identified the suspect as Peter Akakpo, also known as Dompe, an ex-convict. He was arrested on October 13, 2025 at Kasoa-Domeabra following weeks of intelligence-led surveillance by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit.
The arrest is linked to the killings of two taxi drivers whose bodies were discovered at Sakaman Blue Lagoon on May 9 and June 15, 2025, incidents which prompted an intensive CID investigation.
According to police, an earlier suspect, Vincent Gbetorglo, was arrested on June 30, 2025 through similar intelligence operations. Subsequent investigations revealed that Gbetorglo had been in contact with Akakpo, and that Akakpo’s phone number was connected to both deceased drivers.
In a statement issued on October 17, 2025, CID Public Relations Officer Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo said Akakpo was arrested from a room rented by Gbetorglo at Kasoa-Domeabra.
Akakpo is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Officers say efforts are under way to recover the vehicles belonging to the murdered taxi drivers.
Police say investigations are continuing and have assured the public that further details will be provided in due course.
