ACCRA, Oct 13 (The African Portal) – Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated the national football team, the Black Stars, for qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
In a post on Facebook on Monday, Mahama wrote: “Congratulations to the senior national team, the #BlackStars. Another qualification for the World Cup. #ResettingGhana.”
Ghana secured their place at the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Comoros in Accra on Sunday night, marking the country’s fifth appearance at the World Cup since making their debut in 2006.
Mohammed Kudus scored the only goal two minutes into the second half to send the Black Stars to the top of Group I, sealing their place in the tournament to be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Tottenham midfielder struck from close range after Comoros failed to clear a goalmouth scramble, prompting loud celebrations from the packed home crowd.
The victory ensured Ghana finished with 25 points from 10 matches, ahead of Madagascar, who ended second with 19 points despite losing 4–1 to Mali in Bamako.
