JOHANNESBURG, Oct 3 (The African Porta) – South Africa’s under-20 side thrashed New Caledonia 5-0 on Thursday to boost their hopes of advancing in the tournament.
S. Nkwali opened the scoring in the 25th minute, finishing a pass from L. Phili, before S. April doubled the lead from the penalty spot four minutes later.
Siwiwe Magidigidi extended the advantage just before half-time, converting in the 44th minute after being set up by M. Vilakazi. The forward struck again in the 52nd minute, with Vilakazi once more providing the assist.
Jody Ah Shene rounded off the scoring in the 80th minute, setting up L. Maku to seal a dominant win for the hosts.
The result leaves South Africa well-placed to progress from their group, underlining their attacking strength against weaker opposition.
